Q: I Have my 1st Team Mate, How Do You Mentor Such a Large Team?

November 20, 2013 by Jennylou

Answer:

Hi J:

I do it with a lot of madness 😉 jk!!! Congrats on your first team mate. I have found that designers that now have the responsibility of mentoring someone makes one more “grown up” or take a little more care of their business selves and have a new level of awareness, almost like a woman who has her first baby, one simply wants to rise up and be better. Work with LocketsNcharms: How Can I Join Origami Owl (and Become an Independent Designer) with Your Team?

April 18, 2013 by Jennylou

Locket with love, faith, and Navy charmsThis has been the most repeated question of the week via email, Facebook, and even YouTube. I thought that I have already covered it but maybe I was not clear, so here is the answer:

FIRST STEP: Right now, there is a waitlist. Sign on the wait list (aka interest list at http://locketsandcharms.origamiowl.com/join/how-it-works/. You will not be making payment at this time to come into Origami Owl.  It does ask of personal info such as a credit card # but that is to verify you are a real person and have real interest in joining.  There is a long wait because so many have caught on how awesome the chance to be one is.  You do not have to enter a referral or Mentor ID to get on the wait list.  Also, anyone claiming they have a few spots open and available to give out is not an accurate statement. People who sign up on the wait list are let in in waves, in the order of their sign up on the waitlist.

SECOND STEP: Search for a Mentor. I have provided tips on how to do that http://www.locketsandcharms.com/what-is-a-mentor-and-how-do-i-choose-one-for-my-origami-owl-independent-designer-business/
Though someone may be so visible online, does not mean they may be the best Mentor for you.  There are so many amazing ID’s in Origami Owl that are not online.  Do your due diligence. Lots of tips on my blog post there. Read them!

THIRD STEP: Connect, interview, and start training! As I stated earlier, the person you see online may not be the Mentor for you.  I may not be the Mentor for you. It is a matter of interviewing for the perfect one for you. How would you know who is? You can only really know by interviewing them.  Just as companies interview people before considering them for the job, interview for your future mentor because they are to be working for you.  Origami Owl pays them to Mentor you, so why not get a good one on their dime?  Get on the phone with them and see if they are who they really portray themselves online or on for the minute that you two met.  Get on the phone to see if you two jive.  You may jive with someone across the nation more than the one in your own home town.

I would love to speak to you on the phone, get to know your dreams, and your goals and help get you there.  Here is what I do: http://www.locketsandcharms.com/what-does-jennylou-raya-origami-owl-independent-designer-do-for-her-team/

Let me know if I interest you in any bit and I would love to add you to my group that I am already Mentoring and training about Origami Owl before they get into the company =)

BONUS STEP: Simply email me today at Locketsandcharms@gmail.com to let me know that you would like to work with Jennylou and we will get started!

xoxo,

Jennylou Raya, Origami Owl Independent Designer # 1186

What Is an Origami Owl Mentor and How Do I Choose One For My Independents Designer Business?

March 26, 2013 by Jennylou

What is a Mentor?

A Mentor with Origami Owl is the name given to an Independent Designer when he or she brings in a new person into his or her Team and Origami Owl Organization.  The new Independent Designer refers to her upline or sponsor as her Mentor.

Do I get to choose my Mentor?

Yes, you can choose your Mentor.  You can choose one at the point you sign up on the waitlist and you can choose again when you get your invitation to fill out your Designer Agreement with Origami Owl.  Most cases, they will be in one of the same and in some cases, the ID#s will differ.

You have until the signing of a Designer Agreement with Origami Owl to choose or change a Mentor.  After that, your Mentor is permanent.

The one you signed on the wait list is not yet your permanent mentor.  Your permanent mentor is the one you put in when you put in you pay for your kit.

I entered a Mentor ID  when I signed up on the waitlist but have not heard from them? Why?

When you sign up on the waitlist with a Mentor ID, the person does not get notified that you have signed with them.  Send them an email to let them know.

If you have emailed your potential Mentor to let them know you have entered their number and wish them to be your Mentor but not have heard from them, your email may have been lost in e-mail land and may need you to contact them again.

I have informed my potential Mentor many times and still have not heard back, what should I do?

This is a personal decision for you.  You can keep trying to get a hold of the Mentor and hope it changes or you can go elsewhere to find your answers.

What if I do not know an Independent Designer to sign up with and be my Mentor?

Search for one, or you may simply wait for one to be chosen for you by The Nest.

How do I start about choosing a Mentor?

My best advice to you is to find someone who will help you.  This person DOES NOT have to be in with Origami Owl for a long time or seem to know everything.  A good Mentor is someone who is reachable, always learning, and always want you to be more successful with Origami Owl for you, more than for him or herself.  A good Mentor is a giver and your number one cheerleader.  Anyone can be called a Mentor but not everyone do their Mentor Duties.

What are Mentor Duties?

When someone enters Origami Owl an email is sent to the Independent Designer stating their duties saying:

We have taken the liberty to further define the role of an Origami Owl Mentor: + Support them in choosing a business Launch date+ Provide them with initial Hostess coaching tips | suggestions for her first 30 days of parties (2-3 minimum) + Explain | review the ordering and payment process – how to set up the hostess portal+ Encourage participation in Training Calls+ Review Opportunity calls and explain their purpose         + Review the Career Plan –  how they will make money and the value of sponsoring  + Provide your contact information | office hours+ Ensure they understand that you are their first point of contact+ Be available to answer questions in a timely manner+ Understand their reasons | intent for joining the team; support their goals + Continue to coach, guide and mentor via regular (weekly | monthly) follow-up.

What should be the first thing I should ask of a Potential Mentor?

Ask him or her, “What’s in it for me if I join your team?”, “Can I count on you to do the above things with me when I sign with you?” “What training or support do you give your team?”  The answer to these questions (or lack of it) will tell you if he or she is the Mentor for you.

What kinds of things should my future Mentor be providing me?

Aside from what The Nest has stated above, what a Mentor provide their Designers can really vary from one Mentor to another so I cannot speak for others.  What I do know is what I provide my Level 1/personally Mentored Team:

Email/newsletter of Tips every Tuesday, an active FB group for Team to ask business questions from me and fellow Team Designers, daily business tips and motivation to grow business, the ability to book out one hour training calls in advance (many cases same day) to do training business topics, bi-weekly calls to my Level 1s to catch up and follow up on their personal goals and help them grow their Teams and business with Origami Owl, on top of timely response to emails, text messages, and phone calls.

But before anything else, Origami Owl’s Policies and Procedures states that your future mentor is to provide you with the Policies and Procedures BEFORE you sign the official contract/invite to get in with Origami Owl.  You should ask for this if not provided.  You need to know what you are getting into.  The same Policies and Produces state that if a Mentor cannot provide these things and have acquired someone on their team and unable to do the duties, that they are to inform the Nest so that they can provide you a suitable Mentor.  You have the right to have a Mentor that mentors.

I did not know about all this before signing with Origami Owl, can I switch Mentors?

No, you cannot switch Mentors after you have chosen one or one was chosen for you after paying for your kit.  But up until then, you are free to search for one and state them as your Mentor when filling out the Designer Agreement.  The Mentor you have chosen will be getting paid on your volume when she does about $350 in retail sales a month in his or her Origami Owl business.  What a Mentor makes is stated in Origami Owl’s Compensation Plan (one of the sheets that your Mentor should be providing you as well).  This reality can motivate you or demotivate you with your Origami Owl business, so choose wisely.

What are the benefits of choosing my Mentor?

Choosing your Mentor can only give you the satisfaction of choosing one for yourself.

How do I know if I will be having a good Mentor?

You don’t.  It is a risk we all take.  Things change, life happens.  People have different lives, priorities and goals.  There are never any guarantees in life.  And we cannot change people to be what we want them to do or be.  All we can do is control ourselves and our decisions.  The best we can do in life is to make the best personal decision we know how at any given point in time.

What is a good Mentor?

To me, a good Mentor is someone who is more interested in you succeeding that you are.  Someone who is knowledgeable or willing to help find the answer to something.  Someone who inspires and cheers you on.  Someone who says “You got this, you can do this!” when you don’t see the light but because they have walked it before, can guide you towards it.  You will get a feel for who this is from interviewing/asking or watching them.  Your Mentor should be the person that you eventually want to be.  I am so glad to say that I have all this with my Mentor.

What if I do not choose a Mentor?

The Nest assign you one after paying for your kit. Everyone will be assigned a Mentor.  I personally recommend you make the choice for you.  I like to make my own choices, even if I learn later that I chose wrong.  It could just be the “planner” in me but I think it is more of.. I can only be upset at me if things don’t go my way, as a result of my choice – but not be too upset because I know that I made the choice for me with the best information I had at the time… and I, can at least be proud about that.

Leave it up to The Nest and you may land an amazing Mentor as there are 20,000+ amazing men and women in this company, but with anything, there are no guarantees.

What is your best advice in choosing a Mentor, Jennylou?

This is your Origami Owl business, this is a real business, so treat it as one.  If you were to open up any other business, what type of person would you like to partner with?  Would the person you are considering as a Mentor a person someone you would hire and pay out of pocket to help you grow business?  Would you want to have dinner with this person?  Would you like this person to make an automatic minimum of 9% of your personal volume every month for helping you grow?  If this answer is YES, you may have found your match.

Final Words…

Choice is powerful.  You have it in life and you have it when it comes to choosing a Mentor with Origami Owl.  Wherever you go in this journey,  remember these words from my favorite philosopher:

“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” Jim Rohn

Plan your life and with that planning, make some great choices.  Much success to you and your dreams.
