how did you go about creating this website? Has it helped your business a lot? I have been thinking about starting one but have no Idea how to. Also, how long after you became a designer did you start this page.
Hi Kristy, I got your message on my FB page first and replied to you there. You can have a blog/website like this but it must comply with Origami Owl’s Policies and Procedures. Having one of these can be free or cost some money out of pocket. I made and run this one myself but it still costs quite a bit of $.
Has it helped business?
Depends how you look at it. I know that it has helped me share my love and journey of of Origami Owl. I love talking about it and honestly, my little kids (6 and almost 3) don’t want to hear it, so I type about it =)
I find that the majority who land here are already designers with the company looking for help, or already DIWs with Mentors looking for more support. A few times, I hear from someone seeking a mentor and they think of joining with me. Some have but the majority of the people who come here are not new to Origami Owl.
How do I know that? If you were to look at my blog or youtube vid stats, you would think I have at least a couple thousand people in my team, but I do not 😉 But that is ok. The purpose of this site is to share my journey, what I have been up to since joining Origami Owl in January 2012, and contributing positively to the Origami Owl community – whether it be through sharing how I set up my table or telling others that they can do way better than I can.
Origami Owl does not pay us to have a blog. The company DOES PAY us when 1. We sell and share the company products 2. Booked parties that lead to sales and more parties, and 3. We earn Team bonuses for training a team. Those would be and should be the focus of one’s business – not creating a blog. If one want’s immediate earnings, do a party, not a blog post. There are plenty of Designers that do incredibly high numbers in sales and new team members and they do not have a blog, so I know it can be done and they are not “up there” because of a blog.
So…. why do I have this blog? I love to write, I love to share, and I love to teach. I do that a lot on and off this blog and I do it for free. Free to you and at a cost out of my pocket just so I can share with you my world of Origami Owl with Jennylou, Independent Designer #1186. I was a diary and blogger before Origami Owl and I will be one until my dying day.
Also, what pushed me toward this way was because, in the beginning of my Origami Owl journey, I had no car to do parties (hubby worked almost 24/7 and had the car) and sitters were expensive and there was no one to watch my kids for less than $12/hr even if I had a car. I was at home with no other way to really communicate my love of Origami Owl. Now, I have a car and my hubby can stay home a little bit more because of Origami Owl. It took a year to get to this point but now I’m here =)
In a nutshell, do the parties and the meeting of new people face to face and make friends first. That will help business so much more.
Hope this helps.
