Our Love Story + Valentine’s Day Collection 2017 by Origami Owl

This man, I married 11 years ago on a Tuesday, November 22, 2005.

We tell people we met in college via an accounting class – it’s true – but it was an online class I had already dropped by the time he contacted me through messenger.

Months later, January 1, 2005, we met face to face. It wasn’t love at first sight or I just refused to see love. Even at the young age of 24, I was just over the love thing. An unhealthy and abusive relationship since sophomore in highschool had a lot to do with it. How could relationships get so bad?

So I meet this guy and he wants to love me and it wasn’t just the typical I love you to you know what. He wanted to take care of this broken, fragile, crazy, non-trusting, cold and yet emotional girl inside. He did all the right things. I kicked it around like it was a temporary joke of his. How could someone be so loving? Seriously, loving, every single day?

I guess because I wouldn’t take him seriously, he proposes a couple of months later. I still didn’t take him seriously. He was proposal #3. This is no game or contest. I said, you know what marriage is, right? It’s forever until we die even if you hate me and I hate you very much. Leave if you can’t do that. He stuck around.

Nov 22, 2005, because we both had a day off, we had this DIY, basic wedding, reception was at a restaurant we really liked eating at. We don’t even have wedding pictures. I fell asleep ? once I hit the bed on our wedding night ?.

11 years now. He has shown me love that I never knew existed. Many times I’ve asked, how can marriage be so amazing? We don’t have the picture perfect things but this man and me, we are like cookies and milk. God is so good. And just like our wedding night, I fell asleep before he gets to the room. Sorry honey, you know I love you.

What’s your love story?  I have heard all kinds and I have learned that no matter how it starts – whether it be fairy tale – or not so pretty, the more important part of it all is the journey that the people in it take. I love all the sparkles and all the pretties that Origami Owl have for its locket lovers.
I remember December 2011, when I first laid my eyes on Origami Owl and I could not stop thinking about it.  I was a new stay at home with a daughter and money was tight.  My hubby would never say anything if I bought myself a locket for myself but it was the frugal me that kept me from buying one.  Until… I decided to sell it myself.  I was going to get the best price for it at wholesale and I was going to have a shot at making money too because I knew that people would love this stuff too but probably was not going to sell it and just want to buy.
I was right.  I signed up January 2012 and have been here since and it has been worth the time and effort.  I should have joined in December 2011 but later was better than never.

I am not sure if I have shared it here (I’ve been writing here for about 4 years)  but I have told a few people my early fascination with lockets.  And if you are reading this now, I share it with you too.

When I was little, money was something we did not have.  What I did have was the SEARS catalog and various other store catalogs coming in the mail FOR FREE.  Oh, I cherished these catalogs!  I circled the things I wanted.  Time spent with these catalogs were times of wishing and dreaming of what I could have some day.  It was a time of happiness for little me.

As I grew up, went to college, got married and had my kids, I no longer had to resort to wishing and catalog shopping for things I wanted.  I couldn’t just buy anything and everything (I’ve stayed frugal for the most part) but I am grateful for the life I have, brought on by the life I had.  I give thanks to God in my mind, my heart and literally with my lips.  Life was no longer tough like it was when I was a child.  I live daily with a grateful heart because I have everything I need.

Fast forward decades later from that little girl on the rug and those catalogs… I was on my iMac in my heated home looking through Origami Owl’s website.  The company had only been open a month. What was this? Lockets?  Sparkly things?!!!

I was transported straight back to my childhood; those days I would catalog shop and wish I could have things – some were very basic things along with some wishes and wants.

Why?

Because catalog after catalog, whenever I came across them, I circled lockets.  Yes, LOCKETS!  I just loved how they looked. I loved how it could keep a person’s picture, a memory, or something small from someone special inside of it.  Maybe, the musical Annie had something to do with it, but I always knew since I was a little girl, I wanted a locket too.  Thinking back,  I’ve wanted a locket WAY MORE than I wanted a wedding ring.

Here I am today, 4 1/2 years with Origami Owl.  Not only do I get to have all the lockets I want, I get to share a bit of my childhood wishes with you and perhaps, help you grant someone’s wish too.  With our new Legacy Collection added this Fall of 2016 after 4 1/2 years in existence,  you have even more ways to carry your story, hold the things that matter to you, or gift something meaningful to those you love most.

I invite you to take a look at our new lockets.  The rose gold one is called Vision of a Wish and the silver one is called The Legacy of Gratitude.  The Vision of a Wish really struck me the moment I laid my eyes on it.  It reminded me of another childhood memory: My 3rd grade teacher who was from England took the class to see The Faberge Eggs when it was on tour here in San Diego.  I have never seen anything so beautiful.  I didn’t know such beauty and sparkle existed.  I was in awe of it all.  And here, decades later, a locket looking like one of those magnificent eggs (and not costing a fortune)!  I couldn’t believe it.  Maybe I am overreacting, fueled by childhood nostalgia of the happiness lockets and bejeweled eggs have brought to bleak years I remember very little of.  Whatever it is, I am glad these lockets are here today and I have the opportunity to not only have what I’ve always wanted, but to share them with you too.  May you love these lockets like I do.
