Origami Owl Jewelry Bar Display Basics Video {Fall & Bridal}

August 25, 2014 by Jennylou

Get in the spirit of the fall season while staying true to the o2 branding.

For your Fall Jewelry Bar table, take note:

Make sure it is branded in our colors: white, aqua, and pops of color.

Create margins between your pieces and a margin around your table so that it feels relax and cohesive.

Lockets are in the middle so the know what we are selling.

Move from left to right.

With the addition of the Bridal Collection, here is how you can set up for that:

Origami Owl Bridal Table Setup

Same guideline as the above but make changes to make it more for the occasion.

They added a ruffled fabric under the table cloth and have added lots of WHITE to the table.

Switch our basic trays for ruffled trays and linen busts to white busts.

Jewelry Bar Basics for Bridal starts on 3:25 of the video.

Whatever and wherever you set up, remember the following:

  • Clean Lines
  • Margins
  • Brand Colors
  • Focal Point (lockets in the center)

Happy Jewelry Bar Displaying!!!

5 Easy Steps to Conducting an Origami Owl Meeting

August 9, 2014 by Jennylou

1.  Secure a location.

This can be your home, a room in your community such as a rec center, or even a church.  Wherever it is, I do recommend a private room for the comfort of the one leading the meeting, for your attendees, and the regular patrons of a public place such as a restaurant.  No one will care what PV means when they are trying to have a quiet dinner with their significant other.  Some things to consider is size of room, how many can fit in it, the  layout of tables and chairs, the cost, location, and parking.  There will never be a perfect place for everyone.  I spent unnecessary stress trying to figure out where the perfect time and place should be.  In the end, the meeting was for anyone willing to come to a place that was near me, a private room that held at least 2 6 foot tables and 20+ chairs comfortably, had a fridge, and had the ability to set up my projector to effectively share and train.  The place did not have an awe factor such as an expensive hotel meeting room or a patio with a golf course or resort view but I had everything else that I needed in a meeting room and it was all free!

With my  meeting room, I was able to display the rarely seen in person jewelry just like so, which provided more wow than anything else =)

Have you seen my impromptu video on the free jewelry I got from our convention?  You can watch my FREE ORIGAMI OWL JEWELRY video now.  I laid out all this jewelry at my meeting.

2. Secure bullet points and top topics to be covered.

There are plenty of reasons to hold an Origami Owl meeting and endless topics that can be covered.  Your meetings can be a social, an unveiling of new things, education on the upcoming trends, or a training on sales.  It can be limited to you your team and success lines only.  Whatever it is, pick a focus and stay on it.  Share the intent and contents of the meeting beforehand so potential attendees can decipher if it is for them or not.  Of course, in a meeting, do  answer the questions of attendees that may not necessarily be within the topic of the meeting, but for the the most part stay on it.  If you do find (and you will) that there are certain hot topics that gets a lot of question and attendees want to really get into, briefly answer them and promise that a future meeting on that topic will be the next meeting.

3. Secure refreshments.

Some meetings include food such a lunch or dinner.  Some meetings do potluck, while some hosts provide light refreshments out of their pockets or via funds from attendees.  This is totally up to the hostess and what she thinks would be best for her meeting.  For my post convention meeting last night, I opted for light refreshments out of pocket.  Some attendees donate a couple of bucks to east the $30 of Maui inspired snacks from the Hawaiian islands easily purchased from World Market.

4. Secure Visuals.

We have heard the mantra “Death by Powerpoint” and that is definitely what I did not want my meeting and future meetings to be known for.  I naturally side with “the more details, the better” and more words and more PowerPoint slides actually excite me but I tell you, most do not share my sentiments so let’s not overdo it with slides and words.  Instead, have many visuals.  Three that I recommend:

a.  Origami Owl branded display table.  A table that is in line with the recommended company colors, style, display items, images, and jewelry.

Here is a table by Origami Owl at Soar San Diego 2014

b. Banners really liven up  even the palest of meeting rooms and the right banners can really strike up the minds and moods of the attendees.  My Origami Owl banners are bright and cheery and have words that just make you feel good.  Check out these Origami Owl approved banners from Creative Ape.

c. Handouts.  These can be anything that will help facilitate the course of the evening or support training for all attendees.  I simply provided lap boards and paper for those who wanted to take notes on the things I was going over in the meeting.  Throughout the meeting, I passed around items that were up on the slides to reinforce and solidify in their minds with what I was talking about.  For example, during the networking topic and speaking of name tags, I passed around my name tag.

Origami Owl Name Tag

5.  Secure feedback.

It has been said that feedback is the food of all champions.  It is through feedback that we know how we can provide a better experience to our attendees and making the trip to the meeting worth everyone’s time. Feedback may not always be what we want to hear but it is what we need to hear.  It was through feedback that let me know that I was on the right track for the night and the right track for future meetings.   Here I share with you some feedback I received from my Origami Owl Post Convention Meeting held last night:

“Jennylou, thank you so much for taking the time to bring us designers who were not in attendance at the convention up-to-speed. I’m sorry I had to leave early, but you did a wonderful job!!!” – Doreen K.

“Thanks Jennylou Raya for a great post-convention meeting. Thanks again for a great meeting and your help with FB and the fundraiser & tax tips. Looking forward to more.” – Dorothy D.

“Thanks so much for opening this up to all locals…regardless of teams. I was only there for about 40 minutes but your presentation was AWESOME! Thanks so much! Hopefully I can be included in other trainings and meetings.” – Michele A.

What’s the Deal with Hashtags? (video) #Growo2 #origamiowl

July 27, 2014 by Jennylou

I was sitting in a social media class at the Origami Owl National Convention (#o2nationalconvention) and someone asked, “How do I open up a Twitter account?”  Another asked, “How do I get a Pinterest account?”  It was quick to think of an answer in my head to these questions and it included the word ‘Google’ in it.

But then someone asked, “What is a hashtag?”  That intrigued me.  How would I answer this question? Some people threw out some answers of what it was, as well as the facilitator.  Though useful answers they were, I didn’t feel that I would have truly understood what a hashtag was with the answers I heard.

I soon started thinking more and more about it, eventually “googling” it and I noticed that there are many ways to explain ‘hashtags’ and that I share with you here. Before, I answer the title of this blog post, “What’s the Deal with Hashtags #Growo2 #origamiowl?” I would like to answer the person that asked what a hashtag was in that social media class that Saturday afternoon of #Growo2.

1. WHAT IS A ‘HASHTAG’? The plain dictionary definition states:

hash·tag
ˈhaSHtag/
noun
plural noun: hashtags
  1. (on social media sites such as Twitter) a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic.
“spammers often broadcast tweets with popular hashtags even if the tweet has nothing to do with them”
    • the hash or pound sign (#).

The Urban Dictionary definition does a great way of explaining how it came to be and used: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Hashtag

To see what it has become for everyday hashtag users on social media, as well as see how fun hashtags can get, watch this YouTube video:

(source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57dzaMaouXA) Do you have an inkling or sense of understanding of what a hashtag is now?

If you are still reading, you may want to now know…

2. HOW DOES ALL THIS HASHTAG STUFF RELATE TO MY ORIGAMI OWL BUSINESS?

Let me share how this relates to Origami Owl (this is afterall, my blog of things Origami Owl). Some of us who already knew what hashtags were were probably using this way before #o2nationalconvention even started.  If one had never heard of it before, you inevitably came across it soon after arrival as our swag bags given to us included literature that said to use #Growo2 #origamiowl when sharing online in regards to all things that were to come in the days ahead.

Hashtags were found everywhere, including the Jeep that someone won at convention. See that big o’ #origamiowl in the back?

Now you may be thinking… I now know what it is, I see it being used but…

3. HOW CAN I USE HASHTAGS FOR MY ORIGAMI OWL BUSINESS?

You use hashtags to be a part of the conversation when you post or you can use it to see what others are posting on any particular word or topic. Though hashtags were initially mostly used on twitter, you can join or view the “conversation” in all the major social media platforms such as Instagram and Google+. For example, when you see a post of mine online with ‘#origamiowl’, you can click on it and you can see everything else that has been posted publicly by others with ‘#origamiowl’ in it too. You get to see all the #OrigamiOwl talk on the social media platform you are currently on.  And when you add #OrigamiOwl to your Origami Owl related posts (and set it to public view), others can see you as part of the Origami Owl talk.

In a nutshell, clicking on hashtag shows you a collective feed of everyone’s post on a particular topic such as OrigamiOwl (#OrigamiOwl).  Want to see people who were at convention and their posts? Log in to your preferred social media accounts and search #Growo2 (the official hashtag for the event). You can also search related ones such as #origamiowl and #o2nationalconvention to the same posts, as the one posted deemed these hashtags relevant to their post.  If you see anything you like, you can retweet or repost to help spread and give klout to your own Origami Owl business.

4. CAN I USE HASHTAGS IN REAL LIFE TOO?

There are many ways to use hashtags in real life.  Some use it for research, some use it for fun.  The majority use it for a mix of both research and fun. Want to see what others are saying about anything in particular, such as organic food or a celebrity? Add a hashtag to the topic or in front of a name and everything hashtagged with it pops up. You can find real time talk of anything and even see what is a hot topic aka “trending,” particularly on Twitter.

Just for fun and curiosity, I have used hashtags on Twitter to connect with others watching the same TV show at real time, talking to others as if they were sitting beside me on the couch but in reality, hundreds of miles away. On Instagram, hashtags connects you with the pictures of others. I love to post my fashion pics and see the fashion pics of others.  For example, when I post a fashion pic with my Ipsy, Birchbox, and Stitchfix items, I add hashtags to the related company names, and post.  After posting, that hash-tagged words turn to links.  Click on one of them and you will see your picture and the pictures of others who used the same hashtag.  For twitter, it pulls up the hash-tagged sentences of others Twitterers.

5. SHOULD I BOTHER USING HASHTAGS?

That is ultimately up to you.  How you use it too is ultimately up to you.  You can use hashtags to look at everyone else’s stuff online (strictly as a lone social lurker) or you can use it to be a part of something bigger or trending and be included with everyone else’s post linked to a particular hashtag. I personally like it.  I view hashtags that interest me or relate to me.  Sometimes I find a new online friend, sometimes I don’t.  It’s fun and if one ever feels like one does not belong or relate to any hashtag, you can create and belong to your own hashtag. You can start one your own. Just like that.  Try it ‘# + ___________.’ Before you know it, you will be the hashtag pro and you just might go hashtag crazy =)

Do share.  What is one way you have found hashtags useful to you?

Want to see how I use hashtags?  Connect with me on Instagram and on Twitter.

10 Tips for Making the o2 Convention Experience a Breeze in 2014

July 14, 2014 by Jennylou

Tip #1 Pack accordingly.   Keep in mind the climate and the things you will be doing over there.  Make walking from convention to hotel or your car as easy as possible.  Flat shoes and light clothing. I did the heels thing last year and though so cute, it was tough.  Despite the heat, add a sweater, scarf, or shawl to that suitcase of yours.  The inside of the Convention room is cold to freezing!  Beyond these tips, pack and wear what you would feel good in. Don’t worry about what others are wearing.  If you feel great in jeans while others dress up or vice versa, you’re all set.  The Gala ranges from gowns to back dress  to causal dress pants. I will be packing a variety as I dress the same as I eat – whatever I feel like at the moment.

How to Pack Origami Owl Convention
Tip # 2 Plan your entry and exit to the city.
I am flying in Thursday and leaving Sunday.  Just like last year, I plan on taking the cab to and from the hotel. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is $20 and fit 4-5 people.  If anyone else is coming/leaving in at or around the same time, we can split the cost of ride.  Other Ind. Designers are talking about taking the rail, public transportation, Über and Lyft.  Some are thinking about renting a car from the airport. Whatever you do, just get there
o2 Convention Taxi
Tip #3  Have access to your cellphone at all times.
That also means, have a battery charger with you.  The only thing worse than not having your cellphone is having it but not having battery. There will be charging stations (tables and sections of the convention o2 has set up to plug in our devices and charge them.  The downfall to that is you are sitting there while it charges.  Get on Amazon.com and get a portable charger.  Charge your phone while in your purse as you walk from point A to point B or sitting in General Session.  In case you need to reach me, here is my contact info.  Text is best as lots of times it will be too loud to talk. Tip # 4 Get a Room.
If you have not already, get one.  There’s nothing worse than going to your destination and all the rooms are packed and you are there with your bags.  Those who have already told me that they needed a room, I have reserved them.  I have my own room this year as I am a late sleeper and my 3 roommates all went to bed well before I wanted and could go to bed. For those who want to keep me company,   I will be offering mini workshops to those interested. I am also staying at the Sheraton. Sheraton Downtown Phoenix Lobby This is what you see in the ginormous lobby of the Sheraton, just off to the right.  In case, you do not see the hotel front desk, you may see a sign to mark the spot =) Convention Sheraton Hotel Lobby Welcome
Tip #5  Know thy Food Options.
The shopping center across the Sheraton has plenty to choose from.  I eat practically anything so I can go wherever.  Last year, sometimes we went as a group and sometimes we split up and ate wherever.  For those who don’t sleep, there are places open late too.  The attendees this year is double of that last year so it may take some time and patience to get food anywhere.  Breakfast: Starbucks, Corner Bakery (or something like it) is in shopping center across the street from Sheraton.  Sheraton has a restaurant attached to it and there is a coffee stand near the lobby for those who want the closest thing.  Lunch: Friday, o2 provides a boxed lunch.  Saturday is on our own. Convention Center has several eateries there on site or we can walk to eateries a block or two away.  FYI, it is dessert hot in PHX and short distance make everything feel longer.  Dinner: I will be there Thursday night and have no particular plans.
Mi Amigos Phoenix Downtown
Maybe, Mi Amigos again. That Mexican restaurant was pretty good.  Friday, itinerary says Team Dinners.  My mentor Leslie Rhoads is working on dinner plans for Friday night but that has yet to be finalized.  It has been real hard to plan dinner as many have reserved the space and places already.  We may just simply wing it. Saturday night is a dinner and awards ceremony with o2.
Tip #6 Do things early.
If you are coming in Thursday, do your registration that day.  The earlier the better in avoiding the lines.  Lines will get longer as more and more people arrive towards later Thursday and early Friday.  There will be signs posted and you pick up your name tag, etc. at designated booths.  Do your shopping early too – Thursday morning is best.  The lines are shorter and the items are plentiful.  Last year, neck forms were sold out pretty quickly. o2 Store Will be open starting Thursday.  Make room in your suitcase to carry things back or you can ship things home from the o2 store.  A large neck form fit the Vintage o2 bag perfectly along with all my other sway I purchased. I was able to carry that as a carryon with no additional cost on my flight home. o2 Convention Entrance
Tip #7  Be ok with not being together all the time.

One of the reasons we attend convention is to meet those in our team we have only been taIking to online, or on the phone.  I am definitely looking forward to meeting each one of you at some point. My team is spread out nationwide and during convention, our team is spread out between different hotels, events and the many activities led by leaders inside and outside of our team.  With this said, do take note:

Sitting all together can be tough.  When they open those convention doors for seating, all runs to them.  The majority will reserve rows of seats, while others strongly will push that there is no reserving of seats, and are of the first-come-first-serve mentality.  There are no seat reservations are allowed but I did notice that there was a Reserved section for Directors. If there is a face-off between who seats are their’s, the louder seat-saver wins that battle.
General Session Origami Owl Convention
If we get split up, do not assume I do not want to be with you. I would be the first to assume that one wouldn’t want to be tied to me.  I’m a free spirit and don’t mind being alone but I did worry last year that some people were left out of the group because there were not enough chairs in our row, at the eatery, or at the gala.
Tip #8  Conquer by Dividing.
Due to the many breakout sessions listed, I recommend the splitting up and and taking of good notes and then coming back to the rest of the team to report what was covered.  The info in sessions may or may not be posted in the back office in the future.  If one had to go to just one class, I recommend the  Maximizing Your Earning Potential.  I attended this with our Director Heidi Russel last year.  She will be sharing with you how cultivating good habits and a team makes Origami Owl so worth it.  Here are 2 other classes that were offered last year:
How to Book Jewelry Bars IMG_6945
Tip #9  Be honest and follow the golden and platinum rule.
Do not take more than one towel or freebie that is being given out.  o2 knows how many are attending and they know how many they are to give out.  Don’t steal from the company and a sister/fellow owl.  One’s attempt to make their pockets a little sweeter with more swag takes away from the experience of someone else as some does not get one.  See this towel?  I was so glad to get just one – not 2 or none.
o2 Convention swag towel
Tip #10  Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Some people were so tied up about the minors that were were losing the majors.  For example: Stop worrying about what you should wear or what you think someone is thinking about what you are wearing or voicing your opinion about how someone spent too much on their clothes or how you can only afford nothing.  It’s not nice to others and it is not nice to ourselves.  Do with what we have and let others do as they please.  We are here to learn, celebrate, and be with others owls. Personally, I like to dress for the occasion. Here are pictures taken on the nights of the 1st Annuowl o2 convention. Whatever you wear, enjoy the moment!

¿Habla usted español? ÚNETE AL EQUIPO {Top 5 with Origami Owl ID#1186}

[google-translator]
I’ve been asked a few times in the past years if there were anything in Spanish.  Some wanted to read about our products in their own native tongue while some were interested in doing Origami Owl but hesitant as their circles were predominately Spanish speakers and readers.

Today, there is good news!  For those that have been thinking of doing Origami Owl as a business but hesitant to do so when everything was in English, worry no more.  And for those already in Origami Owl and and want to do business in English and Spanish, you are definitely in for a treat as well.

Here are my Top 5 reasons why you should join Origami Owl today:

1.  Origami Owl will be availing a Spanish version of the Spring Take Out Menus to help Ind. Designers reach more people.   Lots of smiles from your friends and family as they are able to share the Spanish version of our TOMs with the people around them.

2.  Each Ind. Designer will also have personal websites and back office in Spanish.  That just pretty much made me fall off my chair. Before I knew of this, I though, “Yeah, it would be nice to have an Origami Owl replicated website in Spanish” but didn’t sweat it. I don’t speak it, and my husband knows little of it, so what’s the point?  But yay, I was so happy when we were told “Everybody gets one!!!!”

This is the Spanish version of my site http://locketsandcharms.origamiowl.com. Simply go to the very right corner to switch between Spanish or English!!! Just like that!
This is the Spanish version of my site http://locketsandcharms.origamiowl.com. Simply go to the very right corner to switch between Spanish or English!!! Just like that!

3. Not only are we going to have new online systems to help sell Origami Owl, Origami Owl is availing to us a friendly, bilingual Designer Care team to help our current and incoming Spanish speaking Ind. Designers and their customers with all things Origami Owl.  Of course, nothing beats that personal attention of a Mentor’s communication with her team member but I am at ease that I am not alone in this new growth.

4.  The support starts and continues throughout Origami Owl as Ind. Designers will be able to choose their Business Packages in Spanish, as well as marketing and training materials for all Ind. Designers who want to utilize them.  And did I already mention, a bilingual Designer Care department?!!

5.  Join today and immediately receive the benefits of getting your jewelry at wholesale prices (30-50% off the retail price).  Get all the new items released today at a great discount for yourself or sell them at retail price making you a decent amount in profit.

What is stopping you from joining?  I will be happy to answer all your questions with Origami Owl.  Let me know how I can help.  Email me at jennylou@locketsandcharms.com
