Lots of new exciting things have just unfolded as far as jewelry and perks for Independent Designers (ID).  There are lots of new eyes looking into becoming an Ind. Designer with Origami Owl.  I have found that one of the most common questions that I have been getting is “What is it to stay in Origami Owl,?” from those who have done Direct Sales before or currently in it now.

To the everyday person, that question might seem a bit off or odd?  Stay in?  Do they kick you out?  Why would they kick you out?

First off, let me just say that Origami Owl doesn’t just “kick you out.”  Secondly, this question refers to sales requirements and not being kicked out due to a clash in personal tastes.

When someone asks “How do I not get kicked out by Origami Owl,” before joining a company, it is mainly because they know that there is usually a minimum sales requirement for one to stay in with a direct sales company.  Direct sale companies can  really differ on these minimum sales requirements. For example, a bag company has a $200 in retail sales requirement every 2 months while a candle company has a $250 in retail sales every three months requirement.

All companies have some kind of standard, protocol, and rules when it comes to the job.  Particularly, in sales and commissioned sales, there is a minimum requirements to perform the job that one has signed up for and that is to sell.  Origami Owl has a 199PV wholesale (PV = retail minus commissions ) which is approximately equal to $250-300 in retail sales, every 6 months.

To meet the 199PV, you would need to sell Origami Owl.  You can gather sales by catalogs and order forms or online sales through one’s Origami Owl website.  Sales of Origami Owl products can be done 1 on 1 with a customer, a group of friends in a Jewelry Bar, or virtually through an online party link that directs sales and commissions to you.  All these ways of selling will go towards your 199PV requirement every 6 months.

After I answer this question, the next question from those in direct sales is “How does that 6 months work?  Is it a rolling 6 months?”

For those that have been in direct sales, the rolling time period is pretty simple: accrued sales numbers based on today’s numbers and back to the start of the period that the company counts.  For example, for Origami Owl’s 199pv every 6 months requirement, meeting 199PV by the end of this month (August 31st) is based on the sales of August and all the way back to March 1st.  Next month, the 199PV in the last 6 months will be from April 1st to the end of September.  Each time, one meets the 199PV (from accumulated sales within the 6 months) by the end of the current month’s last day at 11:59PM EST, the ID will be able to sell and stay as an Ind. Designer with Origami Owl the following month.

Let me share an illustration on how this rolling 6 months works as related to Origami Owl:

Let’s say an Ind. Designer (ID) today has 100PV stated in back office. To stay in o2 and not get cut off September 1st, this ID must do 99PV by end of August, bringing up his or her sales to 199PV.

Using the example above, note that August was a 99PV month for the ID, but what about next month at the end of September?  How much would she have to do to stay in with Origami Owl?

The ID would have to look in the back office and see his or her posted 6 month PV (or add up her sales PV for August, July, June, May, April, and March prior to the system calculating it).  Take this number and see how much one needs to sell by the month’s end, which is September 30, 11:59 EST.

PV posted in the back will always show you how far away you are from 199PV and staying with Origami Owl. An accrued 199PV in the last 6 months must always be met to stay in and sell for the next month.   If 199PV is not met, an ID will not be able to sell starting the 1st of the following month.  The system automatically shuts out those who do not fulfill this term.  There is no actual person that “kicks you out.”

Now that you know what the minimum sales requirement to not get “kicked out” and how the 6 months period works, you may want to know what you can do to not get “kicked out” or make the sales.

My short answer is to  do 1 or 2 jewelry bars in 6 months.  Not into “parties”?  Find 10 – 15 customers to sell to every six months.  (You can do less # of transactions and meet the numbers but I cannot guarantee your customers’ spending with you, so this is a guestimate.)  Any variety of ways to bring in sales processed through you with the Origami Owl system will help you continue with Origami Owl.

For those not sure if they want to stay in fall off Origami Owl, do consider  Origami Owl’s rule on those that fall off the Origami Owl system:  An ID cannot reenter Origami Owl until he or she has sat out for a full 6 months.  That means, if you drop off because of not meeting the 199 PV at the end of August, you will not be able to reenter or sell Origami Owl until March 1, 2014.  To learn more, ID’s please refer to your Policies and Procedures about this.  Those not in Origami Owl, you may contact me.
