My New Origami Owl Designer Home Office

January 3, 2013 by Jennylou

I’ve finally got my space, my corner, the way I want it. Not only is it functionable, practical, and I can find everything despite my little corner, but it is also pretty. It is no surprise I love pretty things, so when hubby said that my corner was such am eyesore, I had to get to work!

It was this…

See the finished project on video!

… To this. It took several hours to file all the papers I needed to keep (for taxes) and put to the shred the old, and recycle the rest. It took more time to let go via donation and throw things away to make more room for stuff I needed to be there. In the end, it’s not only pretty but beautiful. The only thing left to do is get the carpets clean – or snag me an aqua Berber rug somewhere 😉

What do you think?

Origami Owl DIW Searching for a Mentor?

December 29, 2012 by Jennylou

If you are still searching for a Mentor, I would love to invite you to join with me.  If you have not yet read around this blog, please do so, as I have shared many things to consider, do, and think about before joining Origami Owl.  Whether you join with me or with someone else, my goal here is to help you make the best decision for you, and that is largely by being as informed as possible.  A Mentor for you is a big deal, so please take the time to read: http://www.locketsandcharms.com/what-is-a-mentor-and-how-do-i-choose-one-for-my-origami-owl-independent-designer-business/

Need another reason to join with me?  Why not a few?

Check out all the things that I do for my personally mentored/sponsored Team at http://www.locketsandcharms.com/what-does-jennylou-raya-origami-owl/

If all this is still not enough information and backup for your Origami Owl business, you can have even more!

You not only get me but you also get my Mentor and her Mentor who is directly connected to The Nest.

They even have a DIW page on FB for anyone that will be under them and under me.

If you are joining my Team (Jennylou ID# 1186 as your Mentor),  it would look like something like this:

The Nest -> Heidi -> Leslie -> Jennylou -> YOU

What is it you will need to do to get in in all of the resources?

1. Go to http://locketsandcharms.origamiowl.com/join/how-it-works/ and join the waitlist.

2. Email me at hautehoot.jennylou@gmail.com with your “code” from your Waitlist email confirmation.

3. I will send you your first steps and resources for Designers in Waiting and schedule a personal phone call from me to congratulate you on your new venture!

Then, we can connect on Facebook and will be adding you to my Team Page.  As I said in my blog posts above, I will also send you training materials, get on the phone with you to answer your questions and help you plan out your journey. My goal is that you have the confidence to hit the ground running by the time your kit arrives at your door.

You may even opt in to join the Superstars Designers In Waiting Group in addition to mine. Executive Team Leaders are on hand to answer questions.  With our groups, it will better ensure that you get the most accurate and up to date information and learn from those who have built a successful Origami Owl business.

I look forward to hearing from you and cheers to your success!

How to Choose a Mentor

December 8, 2012 by Jennylou

The following are the messages that Designers in Waiting (DIW) and other direct-sale company reps are receiving when it comes to choosing a Mentor:

1.Go with the one that you learned about Origami Owl from. If it weren’t for them, you would not have known about Origami Owl.
2. Go with the one that you would want to hire as your boss, one that has been working with you, training you, motivating you, helping you build yourself and your business, and answering all your questions. (I say that this person should be the person in #1 as much as possible but it does not always work that way as people differ in work ethics, values and personalities, and prefer to be affiliated Mentors for other reasons).
3. Sign with a local mentor. You will be a part of a local team meetings, have a close network, a sense of belonging. Also, it is better when you do vendor events and can split costs and even buy/share inventory as business demands.
***
I say…. when you look for a Mentor, THINK on these things:
Is she Truthful?
Is she Helpful?
Is she Inspiring?
Is she Necessary?
Is she Knowledgeable?
In addition to the above qualities, a Mentor is ultimately your business partner of your choice. Speak with you local Potential-Mentor. It is simply interviewing your potential boss for a job they will be doing for you. Is he or she actively working the business? Is she accessible? Is she learning and growing herself and her team? Is she invested in the success of others? Does she do anything special such as trainings, workshops, or provide tips found nowhere else? When you have these questions answered, you will be making a better choice for you and starting on a better foot for your business.
You are who you hang around with and the people that you associate with. Same goes with business. Your best-friend or your neighbor may be great people but you probably would never hire them as an employee, much more less as your boss. This is the only business you can choose your “boss,” – and it’s permanent- so choose accordingly 🙂

Not choosing one does not rid you of a Mentor. If you don’t have one, The Nest will choose one for you.

Designer in Waiting To Do List

November 24, 2012 by Jennylou

UPDATE: Thursday, January 3rd will be the next release date for our Designers in Waiting (DIW).

I love lists.  I don’t always follow them but I do feel better knowing that I have some kind of order going when taking on a project.  This is my list for you. I learned through trial and error and experience and here I share them with you.

I assume that you are already a ‘Designer in Waiting;’ in other words, you have joined the Origami Owl wait list.  The average wait is 2 months.  It sounds like forever but there is plenty to do to pass the time.

BEFORE

you receive your Acceptance Letter and paid for your Launch Kit

1.  READ READ READ…  the Official Company guide on DESIGNERS DO & DONT list and the DIW_FAQs.

If you have not already, read the Polices and Procedures as well. Every company has guidelines (for their affiliates/reps/distributors) and knowing the policies and procedures saves you a lot of time and money.  I cannot stress enough how important reading the P&P is.  Please read it first before going forward.

As a DIW, you should have already received and read the following from your chosen Mentor:

Designer Opportunity, Career Plan, The O2 Difference, Getting Started Checklist.  Also, find out of Origami Owl training calls for DIW and Team Calls.

If you haven’t chosen a Mentor, find one.  This is the only business where you can choose your “Boss.”  Don’t take it lightly. Ask around. Send some emails. A non-existent or “bad” mentor won’t necessarily break your business but he or she won’t help it either.  While on the wait list, you still have the freedom to look for one.  The Designer ID you put in when your entry to Origami Owl arrives in your mailbox becomes your Mentor for all your Origami Owl life  – no matter what.  You cannot change Mentors once you are in, so choose wisely!

2.  Decide on the package you will invest in when your entry comes up.  See options for Origami Owl Business Kits Launch Packages and decide on yours.

Need help deciding? Read my opinion post here: http://www.locketsandcharms.com/which-origami-owl-package-should-i-get/

3.  Start building your “Jewelry Bar” based on your Launch Kit.  This is your table that shows your Origami Owl jewelry in people’s homes, vendor events, and in your home.  It can be big or it can be small.  It is up to you.  Check out my ‘Resource’ page for Jewelry Bar ideas (under construction).

4.  Host an Origami Owl Party while you wait.  Read and take advantage of the New Hostess Program.  You can host a jewelry bar with a local Designer, or with your future-Mentor if he or she is nearby.  If you do not have a local Designer or if your future-Mentor is far away, you can host a catalog/online party.  This may sound counter-intuitive but here are the benefits of Hosting: You earn the Hostess Rewards (FREE O2 for you), you can promote that you are a future designer at your party, your friends and family will learn of the business opportunity and you start growing a team,  and you can start booking future parties.  Not having a party now can actually limit your future business.

5.  Share with others about Origami Owl.  You cannot sell for the company at this point but you may introduce people to Origami Owl by inviting them to your party, sharing your locket, and casually posting about it like you post about everything else. Do not spam or annoy people – you will push them away.  Simply “share” and be a normal and social person.  If people are interested, they will ask you for more information.

AFTER

you receive your Acceptance Letter and paid for your Launch Kit

1.  READ READ READ…  Designer Handbook, New Designer Checklist, Designer Back Office.  These will keep you focused on the most important things to do while you wait for your kit to arrive.  You get these files from your Mentor you signed up with by entering their ID # in your Acceptance Letter.  If you have never spoken to your Mentor (the person you signed up under, now is the time!)  They will be making money off of you doing your job, so make them earn it by doing theirs 😉  If you did not sign up with Designer’s # for your Mentor, the Company will randomly assign one to you.  It may take a couple of weeks before getting one.

2.  Followup with those that expressed interest in booking a party, as well as people that expressed interest in joining Origami Owl with you as their Mentor.  It is never too early to be someone’s Mentor.  You only need to be dedicated to their success as much as they are to their own and provide them the guidance they need before and after they are with Origami Owl.

3.  Book parties aka Jewelry Bars.  This is the life line of your business.  We would all love it if business came to us but the reality is that this is work –  NetWORKing.  We all must work.  There are several ways to do this and that would be a whole other post, several book recommendations, etc.

Simply focus on what I have written above.  A strong and informed DIW make for a strong Designer.  A strong Designer make for a strong business and a strong leader.  And the cycle continues…. If you want a strong team, be able to do what I have stated here and have others do the same.

How to Ship Origami Owl Lockets from Home for $3

October 3, 2012 by Jennylou

Step 1. Place the locket in a silk fortune cookie pouch.

Step 2. Place the silk pouch in the Origami Owl take-out box. Place tissue in box to avoid jiggling during shipping.

Step 3. Place the take-out box in a small brown mailing box (small boxes I bought from Box Brothers). Place tissue again to avoid movement of items in box.

Step 4. Go to post office. Ship it out via USPS for $1.95.

Step 5. Add tracking # for $.85.

That’s it! Shipping for under $3!
