My husband came running out the room to tell me that Origami Owl was on Twitter with Dave Ramsey. I went to go look, clicked on a link in their feed and I saw the picture below!
Bella, the founder of Origami Owl with Dave Ramsey, the author of Financial Peace University and the host of his own radio show, The Dave Ramsey Show.
Bella was a 14 year old teenager who had this dream to make just enough money to have her own car by age 16. She achieved her dream by working really hard for it – selling jewelry to anyone and everyone who would listen and skipping out on fun things while her friends were out hanging out and partying.
Dave Ramsey is a self-made millionaire who went from rags to riches – to rags again – and to riches again and made a decision to keep it this time by following 7 major principles he still follows to this day. Today, he teaches people a systematic way, dubbed ‘The Dave Ramsey Plan’ to get people out of debt, through a lot of hard work, so that they too can reach their dreams because they have achieved their financial freedom.

My husband and I learned about Dave Ramsey late one night of AM Radio. We had no cable and we would listen to those “weird” shows like the Twilight Zone on there, late at night. In debt and out of work, we were on our kitchen table with bills opened up (including late rent notices), trying to figure out what to do. Dave Ramsey came on air one night and we were hooked! Who was this guy? Soon we found out all there was to know. We devoured everything he said, we got working on our ‘Dave Ramsey Plan,’ paid off 50k in credit card debt, and even got others on the Plan.
But honestly, we didn’t stick to his plan as Dave would say to do his plan – but we have made progress: no more credit card usage to pay for things to live on, and no more using credit cards to buy things that we want. If we had done it Dave’s way without stopping, we could have been here at the Dave Ramsey studio on the same day that Bella was here to attend SOARO2 Tennessee.
Just the other day, I made a mental decision to get back on The Dave Ramsey Plan. I want to be debt free by 2014. Yesterday, as I searched for an old cellphone in the garage, I came across the Financial Peace workbook we had filled in almost 4 years ago but never fully put to action. And today, Dave Ramsey is here, standing with Bella, the other means or road to our financial peace. It’s like a God thing…. and God is saying, “Jennylou, you have all the tools right in front of you; now, what are you going to do with it?”
