That was a note that I received from a DIW in regards to her being on the waitlist.
Here was my response:
You should have been serving your customers by hosting a jewelry bar [online party, or catalog] and letting them order from you. True you are not the one making the commission but you are the one providing a service. You don’t provide it, they will go elsewhere.. it be a current designer or a DIW that is providing the service on behalf of their mentor.
They go elsewhere, you never get them back. You may not get the commission now by being the host but they will come back to you later because in their minds, they “bought” from you, know your face and already advertising for you before you are a Designer… so when you are a Designer, you already have a customer base. They won’t go to your Mentor to order when you are a Designer, they go to you.
As far as events, your Mentor can do them for you and with you. I do that for my girls. One found an event, I did it with her. She was a Hostess of the “event’s” orders.
What you do today affects you 60 days from now. You should really get with her to set you up for success. The box at your door is nothing. You warming up prospects and getting to know people BEFORE you are a Designer is everything because people don’t like to be sold to. You can’t just out of the blue and say, “Nice to meet you, by the way I am an ID for O2” out of the blue. It takes about 7 contacts before a sale is made. Not until the 7th contact do you bring up business – unless they do. Until then, focus on being friends with people now so when you are one, the field is ripe for them to reciprocate you (not the product) because you have been so good to them as a friend first and/or provided the service when they needed it.
DIWs, may you make the best choices for you today by serving others and I wish you the best in finding your vehicle to reach your dreams. I have and I wish the same for you.
All is worth the wait. I promise.
